WaterScience, a Bengaluru-based non-drinking water filtration brand, has raised INR 1.4 crore in fresh funding from Velocity, a growth capital platform backed by Peter Thiel’s Valar Ventures. This is a big milestone for the company as it looks to expand its footprint and product line to tackle India’s complex water problems.
Funding and Growth Plans
Founded in 2014 by Sudeep Nadukkandy, Pavithra Rao, and Mohammed Iqbal, WaterScience focuses on filtration solutions for the segment of water usage that impacts over 95% of Indian household requirements beyond drinking. The INR 1.4 crore infusion by Velocity takes WaterScience’s total capital raised from the platform to INR 7 crore since 2020, with consistent investor interest across multiple rounds.
The company will use these funds to scale operations, intensify brand marketing and expand into new product categories. Its FY25-26 goal is to add 1 million more homes to its current 2 million+ customer base.
Product Portfolio and Market Presence
WaterScience has over 40 solutions for household filtration needs—shower and tap filters to water softeners and whole-house systems that tackle hard water, chlorine and daily contaminants. The brand has an omni-channel presence with products sold online (Amazon, Flipkart, Shopify) and through over 1,000 offline stores.
Recent reports show 70-100% year-on-year growth, indicating the business’s scalability and the growing demand for non-potable water filtration solutions in India.
Investor Perspective: Velocity and D2C Ecosystem
Velocity, backed by Peter Thiel’s Valar Ventures, is one of India’s leading D2C growth platforms. They have invested over INR 1,100 crore in more than 4,000 homegrown, digital-first brands—including WaterScience. They provide AI-driven logistics (Shipfast) and strategic support to the brands to scale faster and innovate more.
Some of Velocity’s other D2C investments include Soulflower, Rynox Gears, NasherMiles, Hammer, Zlade, The Bear House, Off Duty, and Chumbak. These brands are a testament to WaterScience’s credibility in a competitive D2C ecosystem.
